The statewide Chiefs’ Challenge, which emphasizes safety restraint enforcement, begins today, Thursday, May 1, and will run through the entire month of May 2025. Police Departments across the nation will participate in the “Click it or Ticket” campaign, which focuses on enforcement of each state’s seat belt laws.
The City of Takoma Park Police Department has shared that officers will be participating in the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign. Per Takoma Park Police, “officers will stand at various places throughout the City during the campaign in order to issue tickets to any person not wearing a seat belt or who does not have their child properly restrained. They will also be educating the public on seat belt usage and safety.
Takoma Park Police Chief Antonio DeVaul is hoping for less tickets this year because that means people are taking their safety, and that of their children, very seriously. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “Click it or Ticket” is one of the most successful seat belt enforcement campaigns ever, helping to increase the national seatbelt usage rate.”
