The Greene Turtle, a popular sports bar and restaurant chain, began as an English-style pub in Ocean City, Maryland, in 1976. In 1981, college buddies Steve Pappas and Tommy Dickerson bought the establishment and transformed it into a sports bar. The name “Greene Turtle” was inspired by a bar the original owners had visited and liked in Florida. The original location, and its later expansion into a sports bar, established the foundation for the brand’s evolution into the family-friendly, casual dining experience it is known for today. It celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.
