City of Gaithersburg to Launch New Residential Permit Parking Program July 1, 2025

The City of Gaithersburg has shared that effective July 1, 2025, the City of Gaithersburg will implement a new Residential Permit Parking (RPP) program and changes to the Olde Towne Commercial Parking Pass program. The new changes will improve parking availability, accessibility, and overall traffic management.

“The updated parking regulations are intended to address ongoing challenges on certain City streets and in City-managed parking areas,” said City Manager Tanisha Briley. “These challenges include limited parking availability, unsafe traffic conditions, overcrowded streets, increased air and noise pollution, risks to pedestrian safety, and disruptions to the use and enjoyment of private property.”

All existing residential permit parking zones will remain in place under the new RPP program, with no changes to the limits or hours of enforcement. A new parking permit is required by July 1, including for those who currently have a valid parking permit.

Changes to the Olde Towne Commercial Parking Pass program include an automated parking permit application and renewal process with each permit being associated with a specific vehicle. Eligible businesses can permit up to two vehicles and passes are limited to users in buildings that do not have onsite parking.
