Police Officer Charged With Possession of Child Pornography and Solicitation of a Minor

The Frederick Police Department (FPD) has informed the public of charges that have been filed in the state of Pennsylvania against a Frederick Police officer, including possession of child pornography and solicitation of a minor. A video by FPD Chief Jason Lando addressing Frederick residents can be seen below.

Per the Frederick Police Department: “These charges follow a lengthy investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police after an officer of the Frederick Police Department became aware of possible criminal misconduct and immediately reported this to his command staff. Because the alleged conduct occurred in Pennsylvania, FPD referred the matter to the Pennsylvania State Police, who have since led the criminal investigation.

The Pennsylvania State Police have charged Corporal James Dodson with the following offenses:

  • Two counts of Solicitation of a Minor
  • One count of Possession of Child Pornography
  • One count of Criminal Use of a Communication Facility

Upon learning of the allegations, the Frederick Police Command Staff relieved the officer of duty, suspended his police powers, secured his badge, weapon, and department vehicle, and notified the relevant outside agencies.

In response, FPD also sought an internal administrative investigation and worked with the Montgomery County (MD) Police Department to complete that independent review. The administrative review remains ongoing. The Frederick Police Department will share additional information as appropriate once that process is complete.”
