A collision that has left a tractor trailer dangling over a bridge on the I-495 Beltway and I-270 Spur has led to significant disruptions and emergency response efforts after midnight early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred on the skyramp/overpass between Greentree Road and Bradley Boulevard, according to Pete Piringer, the Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).
The tractor trailer, which was transporting refrigerated mushrooms, veered off the roadway and became partially suspended over a bridge. Emergency crews responded promptly, successfully extricating the driver from the vehicle. The collision resulted in fuel leaking and spilling from the truck’s saddle tanks, prompting additional safety and environmental concerns.
Piringer provided an update indicating that the incident took place on the Outer Loop of the I-495 Beltway, specifically on the big curve bridge of the skyramp. The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Emergency Medical and Integrated Healthcare Services (MCFRS EMIHS) team evaluated the driver following the extrication.
Due to the collision, several lanes on both the I-270 Spur and the I-495 Beltway are blocked, causing traffic delays in the area.
