Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Spot, According to LoveFood

LoveFood, described as a “hugely successful and award-winning food and cookery website,” has released its list of “The Best Ice Cream Parlor in Every State.” Maryland’s winner was Annapolis Ice Cream Company, which has several locations across the state through Always Ice Cream.

Annapolis Ice Cream Company is located at 196 Main St, Annapolis, MD 21401. It is a local creamery known for its housemade flavors, some of which include pies and cobblers mixed in, along with shakes and sundaes.

Annapolis Ice Cream Company was opened in May 2004 by Walter and Nancy Giera, two New England natives who wanted to share their passion for ice cream. They spent years researching and testing to create their homemade, super-premium gourmet ice creams. Their goal was to capture the rich ice cream history of New England in the historic city of Annapolis, making it the only daily, made-on-site ice cream in the city.

In 2019, Ross Cohen purchased the Annapolis Ice Cream Company. His sons, Mark and Adam, later joined the family business. They have since expanded, opening several “Always Ice Cream Company” shops in other locations like Edgewater, West Annapolis, Baltimore, Gambrills, and Severna Park, in addition to the original Annapolis location.

Per its website, Annapolis Ice Cream Company has consistently been voted the city’s best ice cream parlor for 20 consecutive years and was also voted Best Dessert in 2022. They are known for using only natural and organic ingredients, including 17% butterfat, and have over 200 different rotating flavors, some of which incorporate seasonal fruits and pies.

LoveFood writes, “Serving the best ice cream in Annapolis for the past 20 years or so, the Annapolis Ice Cream Company is a must-visit for fans of the frozen stuff. Popular flavors include oatmeal cookie, cherry pie, mint brownie, and strawberry lemonade. You can also order decadent milkshakes, such as coffee chocolate chip topped with whipped cream and extra chocolate sauce.
