Good Counsel Student Evan Ferrufino is Representing the DC Area in Prestigious Dominican Heritage Program

Evan Ferrufino, a talented student-athlete from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, has been selected as one of 30 children of Dominican descent, aged 8-16, to participate in a prestigious cultural and educational program in the Dominican Republic.

This unique initiative, organized by the Instituto de Dominicanos y Dominicanas en el Exterior, aims to celebrate and enhance the academic achievements of young Dominicans living abroad. Evan, who excels in football, track, and wrestling, will join other participants on an all-expenses-paid trip to the Dominican Republic.

The program includes meeting the President of the Dominican Republic, engaging with members of Congress, and exploring the rich cultural heritage of the country. For Evan, the opportunity to network, make new connections, and learn more about his Dominican roots was a compelling reason to participate.

With a diverse background that includes Salvadoran heritage and being born in the United States, Evan is enthusiastic about strengthening his ties to one of his ancestral countries. The program began last week and will conclude this Saturday, July 26.

The initiative, known as “El Reconocimiento a estudiantes dominicanos destacados en el exterior,” highlights not only academic excellence but also deepens participants’ connection to their Dominican heritage. Through a cultural tour that includes visits to historical sites and key government institutions, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the country’s cultural legacy and the roles of its public officials.
