Anonymous Winner Claims Virginia Record $348 Million Lottery Jackpot and Immediately Reveals First Purchase

The Virginia Lottery announced on Thursday that the largest jackpot in state history has officially been claimed by an anonymous winner from our neighboring state, Virginia. The single winning ticket, which secured the $348 million Mega Millions jackpot from the June 27 drawing, was presented to Lottery officials at their Richmond headquarters.

In a move that captured the attention of many, the winner shared their post-jackpot plans, revealing a surprisingly practical first purchase: a zero-radius riding lawn mower.

The winning ticket, which matched all six numbers (18-21-29-42-50, Mega Ball: 2), was sold at E & C Mid Atlantic, located at 14878 Northumberland Highway in Burgess, Virginia. The winner, whose identity is protected under Virginia law, chose the one-time cash option of $155.6 million before taxes, opting for immediate financial freedom rather than the annual payments over 30 years.

“This is an incredible moment for Virginia, and we are thrilled for our newest winner,” said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Khalid R. Jones. “It’s a reminder that a life-changing win can happen to anyone, anywhere in the Commonwealth.”

To celebrate the momentous sale, Jones visited the winning store on July 22 to present a $50,000 bonus check to Juan Torres, the Vice President of Operations for E & C Mid-Atlantic. This historic win marks the 10th time a Mega Millions jackpot has been won in Virginia since the game’s inception in 2002. It also highlights the significant contribution the Virginia Lottery makes to the state. In Fiscal Year 2025, the Lottery generated over $901 million in profits, all of which goes directly to K-12 education, funding approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
