Customers are eagerly awaiting Maryland’s first Church’s Texas Chicken (formerly Church’s Chicken), which still has plans to open at 7722 Harford Rd. in Parkville, MD. The new location is replacing the former family-owned Greek restaurant, Pita Pan, marking the first Church’s Texas Chicken in Maryland (the company had Maryland locations under its previous ‘Church’s Chicken’ branding, but is now under new ownership).
Based on various social media posts and comments, many customers are under the impression that the project has been scrapped after several months of no movement but a representative from Church’s Texas Chicken shared with us on Tuesday morning that the restaurant still plans to open its Parkville, MD location. The representative shared that an opening date or timeframe is not currently available, but assured that it was still in the plans.
The restaurant is known for its hand-battered and breaded fried chicken, as well as its popular side dishes like honey-butter biscuits, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. While it’s known as Church’s Texas Chicken in the United States, the brand often operates under the name Texas Chicken in international markets.
Per the restaurant, “Founded in San Antonio, TX, in 1952 by George W. Church Sr. and now based in Atlanta, GA, Church’s Texas Chicken—along with its sister brand, Texas Chicken, outside the U.S.—is one of the world’s largest quick-service chicken restaurant chains. The brands specialize in Original and Spicy Chicken, prepared fresh throughout the day in small batches, hand-battered and double-breaded. Their menu also features tenders, sandwiches, freshly baked Honey-Butter Biscuits™, and classic home-style sides at a great value. With over 1,500 locations in 23 countries and system-wide sales exceeding $1.4 billion, the chain has a strong global presence. Owned by High Bluff Capital Partners since 2021, Church’s celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2022.”
