Montgomery County will celebrate its 17th annual African Heritage Month Proclamation Celebration on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 6:00pm at the Silver Spring Civic Center. The event, organized by the County’s African Affairs Advisory Group, is free and open to the public, welcoming all community members to take part in the festivities.
Montgomery County made history as the first jurisdiction in the United States to officially designate September as African Heritage Month, and this year’s event continues that tradition of honoring and celebrating African heritage, culture, and contributions.
The theme for 2025, “Revisiting African History, Shaping Our Collective Future,” encourages attendees to reflect on the lessons of the past while envisioning a stronger, more unified tomorrow. The evening will feature remarks from County officials, cultural performances, and a showcase of local organizations offering valuable community resources. The celebration aims to highlight African heritage while fostering connections within Montgomery County’s diverse communities.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the African Affairs Advisory Group at [email protected] or call 240-424-5869.
