Shoppers at a Maryland Walmart on Monocacy Boulevard in Frederick have recently been greeted by a heartfelt memorial honoring the life of longtime associate Michael Colwell. The tribute, placed near the entrance of the store, features framed photos, candles, flowers, and a written message celebrating Colwell’s life and service.
Colwell, who worked at the store for 22 years, is remembered as a dedicated associate, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a loyal friend to his four-legged companion. The memorial notes his outgoing nature and unique ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. A true outdoorsman, Colwell enjoyed riding his motorcycle and fishing, two hobbies that defined much of his free time.
“Michael was always willing to help anyone,” the tribute reads. “He will be deeply missed by all of us here at store 2756.” The display was noticed and photographed by shopper Yoselyn Garcia, who shared it online with the caption: “I went to Walmart in Monocacy and I noticed this at the entrance, most people are just passing by without noticing and you can see they put love and thought on that for their friend and coworker, so why not post it…”
Her post has quickly drawn support from community members who remembered Colwell fondly. “Thank you for posting! Sending love to the family. I remember seeing him, always had a smile,” one commenter wrote. Another shared, “My condolences for the family and friends. I believe he helped my husband and I back a while ago when we were there, he was awesome. He went above and beyond. We could tell he was a hard worker and enjoyed his job. They’re hard to find. Rest in peace.”
Others who knew him personally echoed the sentiment. “I worked with him in the past at Walmart. Such a sweet man,” one former coworker commented. Another added, “Sympathy and prayers to his family and friends. A good man.” The tribute has served not only as a reminder of Colwell’s years of service but also as a reflection of the lasting impact he had on both coworkers and customers.
