John Cena, one of the most recognizable figures in professional wrestling, will be wrestling his final match in Washington DC on December 13, 2025, when he headlines WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event at Capital One Arena.
The 17-time world champion has appeared in countless major matches throughout his career, including a notable night in 2011 when he defended the WWE Championship against R-Truth at the then-Verizon Center during the “Capitol Punishment” pay-per-view. Cena’s decision to end his in-ring career in the nation’s capital is being billed as a historic moment for both WWE and local fans who have witnessed many of his milestones in the region.
Demand to see the farewell has been extraordinary, with front row seat packages reportedly selling for $25,000. For Montgomery County resident Mike Herson, who will be in attendance (but not in the $25K seats), the opportunity to witness history is worth every penny. “It’s not often that you get a guaranteed chance to see someone’s last match that’s one of the greatest of all time in their profession, so it’s an experience I’ll have forever,” Herson said.
WWE has yet to reveal Cena’s final opponent, but anticipation is building for what promises to be an emotional night and a defining send-off for a performer who helped shape modern sports entertainment.
