High Winds Fuel Damascus Brush Fire as Red Flag Warning Issued Across Region

Approximately 60 firefighters from Montgomery and Frederick Counties responded to a large brush fire Sunday morning in a cornfield near 11515 Mountain View Road in Damascus.

According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire, which was driven by strong winds over 30 mph, and confirmed there was no impact to nearby homes.

The incident occurred as the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington issued a Red Flag Warning for critical fire weather conditions from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The warning cited northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph across northern Maryland and 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph across the D.C. metro and southern Maryland, creating a heightened risk of rapid fire spread throughout the region.
