Maryland State Police have made four arrests in connection with a triple murder and house fire in Clear Spring earlier this month, including one suspect who was taken into custody in Montgomery County. The investigation, which authorities say is active and expected to result in additional arrests, stems from a deadly November 18 incident that left three people dead inside a home on National Pike.
The accused are identified as Darnell (also known as Donnell) Hawkins, 47, of Baltimore; Tony Smith, 43, of Hagerstown; Maurice Mouzon, 46, of Baltimore; and Kierra White, 35, of Glen Burnie. All four are being held without bond.
Hawkins was arrested in Baltimore County on November 28 and is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, first-degree arson, and related offenses. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
Smith was arrested in Montgomery County on November 23. He faces three counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree arson, and related charges. He is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.
Mouzon was arrested in Baltimore City on November 21 and is charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, distribution of narcotics, and a handgun violation. Investigators say he is also facing additional narcotics-related charges from items located during his arrest. He is being held at the Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center.
White was arrested in Baltimore County on November 25 and is charged with acting as an accessory after the fact to murder. She is being held at the Washington County Detention Center.
The victims are identified as Brittany Ray, 31; Harold Flichman, 36; and Brianna Mae Weishaar, 25, all of Clear Spring. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are pending to determine the cause and manner of death.
Emergency crews responded shortly after 5 a.m. on November 18 to a single-story home in the 13,000 block of National Pike for a reported fatal structure fire. Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal quickly found signs of foul play, including trauma to the victims inconsistent with fire-related injuries and K-9 alerts indicating the presence of accelerants.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit assumed the investigation, executing a search warrant and processing the scene with assistance from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Investigators believe the victims lived at the home and that the incident was not random.
The case remains active and is being handled by Maryland State Police with support from the FBI, Hagerstown Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of the State’s Attorney for Washington County.
State Police say additional arrests are expected. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack at 301-766-3800. Callers may remain confidential.
