FBI Searching for Man Who Killed His Father and Shot His Mother in the Neck in a 1980 Maryland Case

The FBI recently highlighted a decades old Silver Spring murder case on its social media pages, sharing age progression photos of Lawrence William Fishman, who is wanted in connection with the 1980 killing of his father.

Investigators say that on November 28, 1980, Fishman allegedly entered his parents’ home, briefly spoke with them, and then shot his mother in the neck and his father in the back. His father died at the scene after being shot four times and his mother survived her injuries.

According to federal authorities, Fishman fled to Virginia after the shooting, where he is believed to have disposed of the murder weapon before disappearing. A local warrant was issued for murder, followed by a federal complaint on January 5, 1981, charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Fishman is described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, approximately five feet eleven inches tall and 160 pounds. He has worked in the past as a lawyer, cab driver, researcher, lobbyist, writer, and poet. The FBI notes he suffers from a severe mental illness and may require immediate professional care. He has known ties to Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut, Wisconsin, England, and Israel, and once expressed interest in traveling to South America.

He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office, a local FBI office, or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.
