Montgomery Parks to Close All Bike Parks for Winter Beginning December 12

Montgomery Parks has announced that its three dedicated bike parks will close for the winter season starting Friday, December 12.

The temporary closure is intended to protect trail features from damage and reduce the risk of injuries during colder months, when moisture and freezing temperatures can make jumps, ramps, and berms unstable or dangerously slick. The closures apply to:

• Wheaton Gravity Park

• The Pit at Fairland Bike Park

• South Germantown Bike Park

All three sites will remain closed to riders until mid-March, when the ground is consistently dry and stable. Parks officials say reopening dates will be announced in the spring, along with updates shared across Montgomery Parks’ social media channels.

While the bike parks take a seasonal pause, riders still have access to Montgomery Parks’ extensive network of more than 230 miles of year-round biking trails countywide. This includes over 160 miles of natural surface trails and 75+ miles of paved trails, offering a wide variety of options for casual riders, commuters, and mountain biking enthusiasts.

Parks officials encourage visitors to check the Montgomery Parks Rainout Line before heading out, particularly during winter weather, to confirm that trails are open and conditions are safe.
