Snow Forecast Prompts MCPS to Close School Buildings for Sunday Activities

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has announced that all community use of school buildings on Sunday, Dec. 14, is canceled due to forecasts calling for cold temperatures and 1–3 inches of snow, which will affect the ability to clear parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances.

The district says transportation and operations teams will work throughout Sunday to prepare schools and buses for Monday, though refreezing remains a concern.

Alert MCPS — Forecasts call for cold temperatures and a potential accumulation of 1–3 inches of snow overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. The ability to clear school parking lots, sidewalks and entrances will be impacted by this weather. For this reason, community use of our school buildings on Sunday, Dec. 14, is canceled.
The timing of this wintry mix will allow our transportation and operations teams to work throughout Sunday to prepare our schools and buses for Monday, including treating surfaces and ensuring buildings are safe and ready for students and staff. However, it will be cold, and any areas cleared could refreeze.
