Vehicle Fire, Entrapment Reported in Three-Car Crash Saturday Evening

A multi-vehicle crash involving three cars shut down a stretch of Columbia Pike in eastern Montgomery County Sunday evening, sending one adult to the hospital with serious injuries.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service units were dispatched around 6:09 p.m. to the area of Briggs Chaney Road and Columbia Pike for a reported three-vehicle collision. According to Assistant Chief David Pazos, one vehicle was unoccupied and went over a bridge before catching fire. Another vehicle had one adult trapped inside, who was extricated by responders, while a second adult from that vehicle was able to self-extricate. Both were transported from the scene, with one adult suffering serious injuries. Occupants from the other vehicles declined medical transport.

Montgomery County Police were initially dispatched at approximately 6:07 p.m. and issued a traffic advisory at 6:23 p.m., closing Columbia Pike between Briggs Chaney Road and Castle Boulevard while emergency crews worked the scene. Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes and expect significant delays.

In an update provided by MCPD at 6:51 p.m., police confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the crash. One adult was transported with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and the roadway remained closed for a period of time as crews cleared the scene and conducted their investigation.
