The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has released winter holiday schedule changes showing that Ride On and Metro services will generally run on weekday schedules on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, while shifting to Sunday or holiday schedules on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Per the news release: “Below are regional transportation-related schedule changes for the winter holidays.
Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24
- County/MCDOT offices – Open.
- Ride On, extRa 101, extRa Lime, extRa Pink, and Flex – Will operate on a Weekday schedule (until 10 p.m.). View bus schedules here.
- Ride On Flash – The Blue Route (weekday rush hour service) will operate on a normal Weekday schedule. The Orange Route will operate on a Weekday schedule until 10 p.m.
- TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center – Will be open 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store – Will be open. View schedule here.
- Parking at public garages, lots and curbside meters – Follow regular posted rates and restrictions.
- Metrorail – Will operate on a regular Weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. View timetables here.
- Metrobus – Will operate on a regular Weekday schedule. View timetables here.

Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25
- County/MCDOT offices – Closed.
- Ride On, extRa Lime and extRa Pink routes – Will operate on a Sunday schedule. View bus schedules here.
- Ride On extRa 101 and Flex – Will not be in service.
- Ride On Flash – The Orange Route will operate on a Weekend/Holiday schedule. The Blue Route (typically, weekday rush hour service) will not be in service.
- TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center – Will be closed.
- TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store – Will be closed.
- Parking at public garages, lots and curbside meters – Parking will be free.
- Metrorail – Will operate on a Weekend Late Night schedule from 6 a.m. to midnight. View timetables here.
- Metrobus – Will operate on a Sunday schedule. View timetables here.

New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31
- County/MCDOT offices – Open.
- Ride On, extRa 101, extRa Lime, extRa Pink, and Flex – Will operate on a regular Weekday schedule. View bus schedules here.
- Ride On Flash – Both Blue (weekday rush hour service) and Orange routes will operate on a weekday schedule.
- TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center – Will be open regular hours 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
