New “coming soon” signage is now up (photo below shared by Belinda Prather) at the future home of Kusshi Sushi in Germantown, marking another visible step forward for the popular local sushi brand’s expansion.
As we previously reported in October, Kusshi Sushi is taking over the former Zane Japanese Eatery space next to Beers and Cheers in Germantown. Before Zane, the space was home to Indian Bistro and EN Asian Bistro and Sushi. With temporary signage now up, it’s clear that plans for the Germantown location are actively moving ahead, even though interior buildout appears to still be in the early stages.
While an official opening date has not been announced, based on the current pace of progress, an opening in the first half of 2026 now appears likely.
Kusshi Sushi first opened at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda in 2018 and quickly gained a loyal following for its high-quality sushi, creative rolls, and modern, casual atmosphere. Since then, the brand has expanded rapidly across the region, with locations in Bethesda, Rockville Town Square, Downtown Silver Spring, and other spots throughout the DMV. The Germantown restaurant will mark Kusshi’s first upcounty location in Montgomery County.
The company continues to grow beyond Maryland as well. Earlier this year, Kusshi celebrated the opening of its eighth location in Reston, VA. We will continue to share updates as construction progresses and more details become available regarding the Germantown opening timeline.
