Major Water Main Break Shuts Down Portion of 355 on Friday

A major water main break forced the closure of a stretch of Route 355 (North Frederick Road) in Gaithersburg Friday morning, prompting traffic advisories from both fire and police officials.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the incident was reported around 8:13am and involves a large 24-inch water main break that has undermined the roadway. As a result, Route 355 is closed in both directions between High Point Road and Game Preserve Road, with all lanes blocked.

Shortly after, at 9:27am, the Montgomery County Police Department confirmed the closure and urged drivers to seek alternate routes and expect delays in the area.

Motorists traveling through Gaithersburg should plan for significant traffic impacts during the morning commute and avoid the area if possible. There is no immediate word on how long the closure will remain in effect as crews assess the damage and begin repairs.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor traffic conditions and follow official updates as the situation develops.
