A kitchen fire in a Wheaton townhouse displaced two adults and caused an estimated $75,000 in damage, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).
Firefighters responded to the 2800 block of Schoolhouse Circle, near Veirs Mill Road, for reports of smoke coming from a three-level townhouse. Crews arrived to find a fire on the second floor of the middle-of-row home and quickly knocked it down, preventing extension beyond the affected unit.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire originated in the second-floor kitchen and was likely caused by unattended food cooking or warming in an air fryer.
Two adults were displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.
