Local Hospitals Welcome First Babies of 2026

Montgomery County rang in 2026 with several joyful arrivals, as local hospitals celebrated the first babies born in the new year. The following births are listed in order based on the time the babies were born, and reflect the three New Year’s babies that hospitals shared publicly on social media, not necessarily the only babies born in Montgomery County on January 1.

The first baby of 2026 shared publicly came from Holy Cross Health, where the Mother Baby Unit welcomed its first newborn of the year at 12:01am on New Year’s Day. The baby, born to the Mariani family, was described by the hospital as a symbol of hope and new beginnings. Holy Cross Health did not specify whether the delivery took place at its Germantown or Silver Spring location.

Next, Shady Grove Medical Center announced its first baby of 2026 was born at 4:15am on January 1. A Rockville family welcomed a 7-pound, 5-ounce baby girl with the help of the hospital’s Birth Center team. To mark the occasion, the family received a special gift basket filled with newborn essentials, toys, and books.

Later that morning, White Oak Medical Center celebrated its first baby of the year at 5:53am. A family from Lanham, Maryland, welcomed a baby boy weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce. As the hospital’s first birth of 2026, the newborn and his family were presented with a large gift basket filled with toys and baby essentials.
