Maryland Health Secretary Reaffirms Commitment To Childhood Vaccine Schedule

Maryland Secretary of Health Dr. Meena Seshamani issued a statement reaffirming the state’s commitment to childhood immunizations and the existing vaccine schedule, emphasizing that it will continue to be guided by established medical science and national pediatric standards.

“Vaccines remain one of the most powerful and effective tools we have to protect children, adults, and entire communities from serious and preventable diseases,” Seshamani said. “Our childhood vaccine schedule will continue to follow the guidance of the American Academy of Pediatrics, last updated Nov. 21, 2025, which is based on decades of science and evidence-based recommendations.”

The statement comes amid ongoing national conversations and scrutiny around vaccines, particularly those recommended for children. Seshamani stressed that Maryland’s approach remains rooted in long-standing research and expert consensus.

“Maryland remains firmly committed to immunization as a core public health priority, and will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure broad vaccine access in the state,” she said.

State health officials have consistently pointed to high vaccination rates as a key factor in preventing outbreaks of serious illnesses and protecting vulnerable populations, including infants, seniors, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
