Shady Grove Medical Center is lighting up the skyline as it prepares to open its highly anticipated new tower this summer.
In a playful social media post, the hospital shared that it has been “running some tests on Roy G. Biv,” referring to the rainbow of color changing lights now illuminating the glass staircase inside the Horizon Tower. The staircase features a lighting control system capable of mixing and matching up to 256 shades of each primary color, creating more than 16.7 million possible color combinations. Hospital officials say the display will serve as a glowing canvas in the sky to celebrate health, healing, and community spirit.
The lighting reveal comes as Shady Grove Medical Center nears completion of its major tower expansion project. The Horizon Tower will add 150,352 square feet of new patient care space and renovate an additional 25,696 square feet of existing space. The project is designed to enhance patient safety, improve the overall patient experience, and increase clinical efficiency.
Key components of the expansion include upgrades to the Emergency Department, the creation of all private medical and surgical inpatient rooms, and the new Ron and Joy Paul Family Intensive Care Unit. The ICU has been designed with modern critical care needs in mind and includes flexibility to respond to future public health emergencies. The Horizon Tower at Shady Grove Medical Center is scheduled to officially open on June 14.
