End of an Era for Surf House as Beloved Urbana Restaurant Is Sold

A longtime Urbana favorite is preparing for a major transition. After ten years serving tropical flavors and laid-back island vibes to the community, the family behind Surf House (8925 Fingerboard Rd.) has announced they are retiring from the restaurant industry and have sold the business.

In a message shared with customers, the owners reflected on a 30-year career in hospitality, including what they called “ten AMAZING years” in Urbana. They thanked the community for its support and said the relationships built over the past decade made the decision an emotional one.

The restaurant has been sold to a family-run group of experienced local restaurateurs. New owners Jaime, Ada, Juber, and Osmar are well known in Frederick County’s food scene and are adding Surf House as the fifth restaurant in their growing portfolio. It will  transition to a Habanero Bar & Grill on Tuesday, January 20th.

Their existing restaurants include Habanero Tacos Bar & Grill in Frederick, Gran Azteca Mexican Bar & Grill in Frederick, River Bar & Grill in New Market, and J&V El Eden in Frederick. While ownership is changing hands, the goal is a smooth transition for customers. The new owners will honor existing Surf House gift cards, and the outgoing family expressed confidence that the restaurant is in good hands as it enters its next chapter.

The Surf House family also encouraged customers to stop by and say goodbye, adding that they look forward to seeing familiar faces again soon, this time as patrons at Habanero Bar & Grill.
