Two unique farm animals in neighboring Prince George’s County are looking for the right place to call home, and local animal services officials say both would make great additions for someone with the space and ability to care for them.
Sanders, a rooster, and Mimosa, a female pig, are currently available for adoption through the Prince George’s County Animal Services Division. Staff describe both animals as friendly and social, with personalities that would thrive in a caring and appropriate farm or rural-style setting.
While dogs and cats typically dominate adoption conversations, animal services officials note that farm animals like Sanders and Mimosa often wait longer for placement despite being just as deserving of permanent homes. Adopting these animals not only gives them a second chance, but also helps free up space and resources for other animals in need.
Both animals are housed at the Prince George’s County Animal Services facility on Brown Station Road in Upper Marlboro. Interested adopters are encouraged to contact the shelter directly to learn more about care requirements, adoption steps, and whether their property is a good fit.
Adoption hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with visitors asked to arrive at least one hour before closing. The shelter is closed on Sundays and Mondays. For those who have the space, experience, and interest in caring for farm animals, Sanders and Mimosa represent a rare and rewarding adoption opportunity close to home.
