A house fire Saturday afternoon caused damage to a Rockville home and displaced two residents.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Assistant Chief David Pazos, crews were dispatched around 3:52 pm to the 400 block of Tallahassee Avenue for a reported fire involving a detached garage. Firefighters arrived to find fire conditions centered in the rear of the garage, where the blaze is believed to have started above a workbench area before extending into the main house. The fire spread into the first and second floors of the two-story single-family residence.
Investigators determined that the only potential ignition sources in the area where the fire originated were electrical. However, icy weather conditions limited a thorough examination of the scene, and the official cause remains undetermined. Damage from the fire is estimated at approximately $75,000.
Two adults and one dog were able to escape the home without injury. Fire crews remained on scene to fully extinguish the fire, and the displaced residents are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
