Cara Marbury, a 2001 graduate of Colonel Zadok Magruder High School in Montgomery County, has been named DCPS Outstanding Educator of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year.
The honor was announced as part of this year’s Standing Ovation awards, recognizing educators who have made an exceptional impact on students, families, and school communities.
Marbury is a veteran educator who has dedicated 16 years to Anne Beers Elementary School in Southeast Washington, D.C., where she serves students in the Communication and Education Support program. She brings more than 19 years of experience spanning classroom instruction and school-based leadership and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst as well as a respected special education leader.
Her work focuses on providing individualized, data-driven instruction and leading the development of Individualized Education Programs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Marbury also mentors paraprofessionals and new teachers while advocating for students and families to ensure learners receive the access, supports, and accommodations they need to thrive.
The recognition highlights Marbury’s dedication to inclusive education and her lasting impact on the students and communities she serves, a journey that began in Montgomery County classrooms and has continued through years of service in special education.
