Lost Pet Scam Warning Issued by Humane Society

The Montgomery County Humane Society is warning residents about a scam in which callers falsely claim to be from the organization or from Hanna’s Clinic.

Officials say scammers are contacting pet owners, claiming they have found and treated a lost pet and demanding payment before releasing the animal, often using lost pet posts to target victims.

🚨 BE AWARE OF THIS SCAM! 🚨

We have been made aware that scammers are posing as the Montgomery County Humane Society and Hanna’s Clinic, operated by MCHS. The scammers are contacting people and claiming that we have their lost pet, that it was injured, that we performed surgery on the pet, and that payment is due before they can pick up the pet. They may be using lost pet notices to identify their victims.

This is NOT MCHS or Hanna’s Clinic.

MCHS does not take in lost or stray animals, and would never perform surgery or provide other services without the pet owner’s knowledge and permission. And, we never ask for payment for services a pet owner is unaware of or did not authorize.

Stay safe and beware of scams.
