5+ Inches of Snow Possible Under Winter Storm Watch for Parts of Maryland and Northern Virginia

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of Maryland (including NW Montgomery County) and Northern Virginia from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, with the potential for significant snowfall across the region.

Forecasters say heavy snow is possible, with total accumulations of 5 inches or more in parts of central, northern, and northeastern Maryland, as well as northern Virginia. While some light snow could begin as early as Sunday morning, the most impactful period is expected late Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning, when snowfall rates and colder temperatures increase.

Travel conditions could deteriorate quickly, especially Sunday night into Monday morning. Officials warn that hazardous roads may significantly affect the Monday morning commute, particularly in areas that see the higher end of snowfall totals.

Residents in the watch area are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely, as watches may be upgraded to warnings if confidence in heavy snowfall increases.
