Montgomery Parks Delays Opening of Grass Athletic Fields Due to Wet Winter

Montgomery Parks announced that grass athletic fields across the county will open later than usual this spring due to persistently wet winter conditions. The department said it anticipates opening all grass fields on April 1, 2026.

Officials said the delayed opening will help ensure the fields are in suitable condition for play and prevent long-term damage that can occur when fields are used while the ground is still saturated. Using fields before they are ready can lead to uneven surfaces, loss of turf, and drainage problems that may take weeks or months to repair.

By waiting until conditions improve, Montgomery Parks said it hopes to preserve the quality and safety of its athletic facilities for leagues, teams, and casual users throughout the season.

Field users are encouraged to check the Montgomery Parks Rainout Line for the latest updates on field conditions and accessibility before heading to a park. The Rainout Line is updated daily by 3pm on weekdays and 7am on weekends to reflect weather conditions and field readiness.
