Demolition Marks First Step in Clarksburg Redevelopment Plan

Demolition of the former COMSAT building in Clarksburg is now underway, marking the first step in implementing the recently approved Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan.

The long-vacant, 500,000-square-foot building has sat unused for about 20 years, and its removal by property owner River Falls Investments LLC signals the start of redevelopment efforts aimed at transforming the area into a more connected, mixed-use community.

The Sector Plan outlines a long-term vision for housing, jobs, retail, open space, and infrastructure improvements, with the COMSAT site identified as a key redevelopment opportunity due to its size and location along I-270. Officials and River Falls Investments LLC say the project is expected to support economic growth, expand the tax base, and create new opportunities for residents and businesses as development moves forward.
