Ten Ren Tea, a longtime staple in Rockville’s Wintergreen Plaza, has closed its doors after more than two decades in business.
A sign posted on the storefront at 825-G Rockville Pike announced the closure, stating the shop officially ended operations on April 5 following the expiration of its lease. The message thanked customers for their support over the years, noting the store had served the community for more than 20 years.
Located in Wintergreen Plaza, Ten Ren Tea was known for its traditional Taiwanese teas and early presence in the local bubble tea scene, long before the category became as widespread as it is today. The shop offered a range of classic milk teas, fruit teas, and loose-leaf varieties, building a loyal following over the years.
The Rockville location had been part of the international Ten Ren brand, a tea company founded in Taiwan in 1953 and known for promoting Chinese tea culture worldwide.
Its closure comes as the bubble tea landscape in Rockville continues to evolve. Maryland’s first HeyTea opened just steps away at 891-F Rockville Pike in Wintergreen Plaza last June, reflecting a new wave of modern, design-forward tea concepts entering the market.
