Local Business Rewards Students Who Helped Neighbors During Winter Storm

A group of Clarksburg middle schoolers who earned praise earlier this year for helping neighbors dig out after a winter storm are now being recognized in another meaningful way, this time by a local business inspired by their story.

Sole Inspires, the sneaker and apparel shop at the Clarksburg Outlets, recently surprised Logan Rushin, Jayden Brown, and Jagger Brown with free gift cards after coming across coverage of their snow day efforts. The business shared that after seeing the story, their team wanted to quickly offer something back in recognition of the boys’ hard work and selflessness.

Back in January, the three friends spent hours shoveling driveways and digging out cars across their neighborhood after a heavy snowstorm. What started as a simple idea quickly turned into a full day of helping others, as requests poured in from neighbors in need. By the end of the day, they had cleared 11 homes and helped dig out two vehicles, all while working through heavy snow, ice, and fatigue.

The boys were not looking for anything in return. Neighbors insisted on giving what they could, but the biggest reward came from the overwhelming appreciation shared throughout the community, both in person and online.

Sole Inspires, founded by Montgomery County native Brandon Cheng, has built its brand around community and connection, making the recognition a natural fit. Cheng, who began selling sneakers as a child and later opened his storefront at the Clarksburg Outlets, has emphasized creating a welcoming environment and supporting young people in the community.

In a social media post, the business reflected on the moment, noting that you never know who is watching while thanking the boys for stepping up when their neighbors needed it most.
