Third Annual Sligo Creek Fest Returns with Music, Food, and Family Activities

Montgomery Parks is bringing back one of its largest outdoor events next month, with the third annual Sligo Creek Fest set to take over a stretch of Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring. The festival will take place on Saturday, May 2 from 11am to 3pm along Sligo Creek Parkway between University Boulevard and Dennis Avenue. In preparation for the event, the roadway will close beginning at 10am on Thursday, April 30.

Sligo Creek Fest will feature live music across three stages, along with nature programming, kids’ activities, and a wide selection of local food and brewery options. Performers include Dupont Brass, known for its eclectic soul sound, and Capital Effect, bringing a rock-and-roll vibe. The children’s stage will feature family-friendly acts including Rocknoceros and Culture Queen.

In addition to scheduled performances, visitors can expect roving entertainment throughout the day, including hula hoopers, stilt walkers, living statues, and Double Dutch jump ropers. Interactive activities will include inflatable archery, soccer, and a variety of hands-on experiences.

Nature-focused programming is also a major part of the event. Kids can take part in tree climbing sessions led by Montgomery Parks arborists, while natural resources specialists will demonstrate electrofishing techniques used to study freshwater streams. The department’s mobile “Nature on Wheels” center and a biking basics program hosted by Roots to Rocks will also be available.

“Sligo Creek Fest shows what’s possible when we reimagine open spaces as places for connection, creativity, and community,” said Montgomery Parks Director Miti Figueredo. “Over the past three years, the festival has grown from a new idea into a vibrant must-attend community tradition.”

Attendees are encouraged to walk or bike to the event using the area’s trail network. Two free bike valet stations will be available along the parkway near University Boulevard and Dennis Avenue, where attendants will securely store bikes during the festival. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, chairs, and food, though outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted. The event is ADA accessible, with additional accommodations available upon request.
