Rockville Police Launch New 8-Week Community Education Program

The Rockville City Police Department is now accepting applications for a new eight-week program designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at local law enforcement.

The “Police Education Program” will run from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesdays from June 3 through July 22, 2026, offering participants an inside perspective on how officers serve and protect the community.

The program is structured to increase awareness and understanding of policing in Rockville through a mix of classroom instruction, demonstrations, and discussions. Sessions will take place at various locations throughout the city, with participants expected to attend at least six of the eight classes to graduate. Transportation is not provided.

Topics covered throughout the program include department operations, criminal and Maryland traffic law, patrol procedures, crime scene investigation, emergency communications, and police investigative techniques. Participants will also hear from specialized units, including the K-9 Unit, Special Operations, Traffic Unit, and Community Engagement Unit, along with representatives from the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. A ride-along opportunity will be offered but is not required.

The program is free to attend, with the only requirement being a time commitment. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants per class, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and either live or work in Montgomery County, with priority given to Rockville residents. All applicants will undergo a background check as part of the selection process.

Applications are open now and must be submitted by 11:59pm on Wednesday, May 13. Accepted participants will be notified directly by department personnel.
