Man Found Guilty of Double Murder, Faces Up to 150 Years

A Montgomery County jury found Kaloyan Stoev guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and multiple firearm-related charges in connection with the January 2025 shooting deaths of 26-year-old Marcell Hebron and 27-year-old Leilani Marroquin.

The verdict was returned on April 23, 2026, following a four-day trial in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Stoev faces a maximum sentence of 150 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for September 28, 2026.

According to investigators, the victims were shot in and around a vehicle in Rockville during the early morning hours. Police said Stoev had been seated in the back seat of a BMW before opening fire on Hebron, who was driving, and Marroquin, who was in the front passenger seat. Hebron was later found inside a disabled vehicle at Shady Grove Road and Research Boulevard, while Marroquin was found in a nearby hotel parking lot.

Authorities said Stoev fled on foot after the shooting but later returned to the hotel where he had been staying. Detectives located and arrested him inside the hotel following the incident. Prosecutors said the case was handled by Assistant State’s Attorneys Ashley Inderfurth and Dermot Garrett.
