Montgomery County Police are stepping away from one of their social media platforms.
In a message shared on Monday, MCPD announced they will be discontinuing their presence on Threads beginning Friday, May 15, 2026. The department framed the move as a shift in focus rather than a full pullback from social media. “We’re turning the page…” the post reads. “It’s not you… it’s us.”
MCPD emphasized that the change will not impact how they communicate with the public overall. The department will remain active on its other platforms, where it regularly shares updates, community alerts, event information, and public safety messaging.
“Don’t worry, you can still find us on all our other social media platforms for updates, events, and everything happening in the community,” the statement continues. The post closes with a lighthearted note: “Same us, just fewer threads.”
No additional details were provided about why Threads specifically is being dropped, but the move reflects a broader trend of agencies refining where they focus their digital outreach. MCPD will remain active on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube.
