The Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT), in coordination with the Maryland Department of Information Technology’s (DoIT) Office of Security Management, has announced that the Real Property Search Tool is back online following testing and security review.
According to the agencies, analysis confirmed that any compromised systems contained only public information that was already accessible through the Real Property Search application. Officials also stated that there is no evidence of a broader system breach related to the incident.
SDAT expressed appreciation for the public’s patience during the disruption and emphasized its commitment to providing reliable information to Maryland residents and businesses. Officials are also urging users to avoid third-party websites or unofficial links claiming to provide SDAT property records, noting that those sources may not be secure.
DoIT continues to encourage Marylanders to follow basic cybersecurity best practices, including regularly updating software, using strong and unique passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and installing reputable security software to protect personal devices. Residents are also advised to remain cautious of phishing attempts, including suspicious emails, texts, or websites that request personal information or prompt users to click unfamiliar links.
