Firearm Recovered at Blake High School, Suspect in Custody

Montgomery County Police responded Wednesday at approximately 11:29am to Blake High School in Silver Spring for a report of a student with a firearm.

According to MCPD, officers located the firearm and the person has been detained. Montgomery County Public Schools has placed the school in a hold status.

Summary of events, per MCPD below:

“The following is a brief summary of events regarding a shooting investigation in the parking lot of Blake High School.

At approximately 11:29 a.m., A Montgomery County Department of Police Community Engagement Officer (CEO), already at the school, was flagged down regarding a fight in the school parking lot.

Preliminary information indicates that Montgomery County Public Schools security along with the CEO responded to a fight in the school parking lot. During the altercation, a handgun was discovered after it reportedly fell to the ground. One person, a 19-year-old male, was taken into custody.

A short time later, a juvenile male arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound. The early investigation shows that the juvenile was involved in the initial fight.

Police have secured the scene, and this remains an active investigation. All information is preliminary and will be updated as it becomes available.

MCPS has placed the school in a hold status. Updates regarding the school’s status will be provided by MCPS.”
