A 19-year-old Silver Spring man has been charged following a fight and shooting in the parking lot of Blake High School.
Djibia Gombo was arrested and charged with first-degree assault after a Wednesday morning altercation involving several individuals. A Montgomery County police officer already on campus, along with school security, responded to the fight, during which a handgun was reportedly thrown to the ground and recovered by security.
Shortly after the incident, a 17-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and is believed to have been involved in the altercation. Detectives determined the gun discharged during the fight, causing the injury. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to determine how the shooting occurred, and additional charges may be filed. Gombo is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit awaiting a bond hearing.
