The Noyes Library for Young Children in Kensington will temporarily close at 5 pm on Thursday, May 21 for a comprehensive renovation, with the project expected to last approximately 14 to 16 months and reopening anticipated in fall 2027.
A community groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at 10 am. The historic library, which focuses on early childhood education, will undergo upgrades to improve accessibility and functionality while preserving its small-scale character.
Planned improvements include ADA-compliant restrooms, new staff and programming spaces, and the addition of an elevator to provide full accessibility. The renovation will also involve converting the attic into a second floor, updating the main library space, and creating a finished basement for programming. During the closure, patrons are encouraged to use nearby branches such as Kensington Park Library or access digital resources, as Noyes will no longer serve as a pickup location for holds.
