A serious two-vehicle crash shut down Dickerson Rd./Rt. 28 Tuesday night, prompting a large emergency response from both Frederick and Montgomery counties and resulting in multiple trauma transports, including several by helicopter.
According to emergency officials, crews were dispatched around 8:02pm to the 6000 block of Dickerson Rd./Rt. 28, between Rt. 85 and Park Mills Rd., for a reported crash involving entrapment.
Officials say seven patients were involved in the crash. Two individuals were trapped inside vehicles and required extrication by rescue crews. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including units from Frederick County and Montgomery County.
Maryland State Police Aviation Command was also requested due to the severity of injuries. Trooper 2 transported two patients by helicopter, while Trooper 3 transported one adult patient. Frederick County Fire and Rescue crews transported one additional adult by ground to a trauma center. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue transported one adult and two pediatric patients by ground to INOVA.
Dickerson Rd./Rt. 28 remains closed in both directions as Maryland State Police conduct an investigation into the crash. Officials say the roadway is expected to remain closed for an extended period.
