Montgomery County Public Schools has announced Oscar Alvarenga as its 2026 Supporting Services Employee of the Year.
Alvarenga serves as a newcomers transition coordinator with the Department of International Admissions, where he helps support more than 4,000 newly arrived students and their families each year as they transition into MCPS.
In announcing the honor, MCPS described Alvarenga as a “quiet champion and true problem solver” whose impact extends far beyond the classroom.
Through his role, Alvarenga helps families navigate not only school enrollment, but also access to critical services including housing, healthcare, and legal support.
