Fourth Annual Gilbert Games to Celebrate Inclusion and Community at Wheaton High School

Wheaton High School will host the Fourth Annual Gilbert Games on May 15, bringing together students, staff, and community members for a day focused on inclusion, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Students from Stephen Knolls, Sherwood, Springbrook, Kennedy, and Einstein high schools will join Wheaton for the event, which honors the legacy of former student Sarah Gilbert and has become one of the school’s most meaningful annual traditions centered around creating an engaging and welcoming experience for all participants.

The Fourth Annual Gilbert Games will feature a variety of activities designed to be accessible and adaptable for students of all abilities, including running and jumping events, relays, throwing challenges, and interactive group games. Organizers say each activity is structured with flexibility and modifications in mind, allowing students to participate in ways that best fit their strengths and comfort levels.

Leading up to the event, Wheaton staff members and student leaders are helping prepare participants, organize activities, and coordinate logistics to ensure the day runs smoothly. Throughout the event, staff and student volunteers will work alongside participants to guide activities and encourage connections between students from different schools.

Organizers say the Gilbert Games are designed to create an atmosphere where students feel supported, celebrated, and included. The day is expected to be filled with cheering, shared accomplishments, and moments that reinforce community and friendship among participants.

Students are especially looking forward to showcasing their talents during the friendly competitions, cheering on classmates and friends, earning medals, and enjoying lunch donated by Chick-fil-A locations on Montrose Road, at Westfield Montgomery Mall, on Tech Road, and on Ellsworth Drive.
