Utility Pole Snapped in Half After Early Morning Crash

A single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Fairland snapped a utility pole in half and caused road closures and power outages in the area, according to Montgomery County emergency officials.

MCFRS chief spokesperson Pete Piringer said the crash occurred around 5am in the 2600 block of Briggs Chaney Road, between Old Briggs Chaney Road and Cedarbrook Drive. A vehicle struck a telephone pole, causing the utility pole to split in half and leaving wires down across the roadway.

Montgomery County Police said officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:54am. The crash prompted road closures at:

  • Briggs Chaney Road at Cedar Brook Drive
  • Briggs Chaney Road at Old Briggs Chaney Road

Police are advising drivers to seek alternate routes and expect delays while crews work to repair the damaged pole and clear the scene. One adult was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
