Loaded Handgun Recovered After Juveniles Taken Into Custody in Gaithersburg

The Gaithersburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Department of Police arrested three juveniles Thursday evening following a reported weapons incident in the area of Buttry Road in Gaithersburg.

Police said officers responded at approximately 5:23 pm after a caller reported a group of juveniles chasing two individuals while claiming to be armed with handguns. The suspects fled on foot, but Montgomery County Police’s Raven 6 drone located the group, observed them discarding two backpacks, and directed officers to their location. Authorities said all three suspects were taken into custody without incident.

According to police, the discarded bags contained a loaded handgun and a replica firearm. No injuries were reported and investigators said there is no evidence that any shots were fired. One juvenile was charged as an adult with multiple counts of aggravated assault and firearm offenses, a second juvenile was charged as an adult with multiple counts of aggravated assault, and a third juvenile was charged through the Department of Juvenile Services with multiple counts of aggravated assault.
