Shady Grove Medical Center Earns National Platinum Award for Pediatric Nursing Excellence

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s inpatient pediatric unit has received the Platinum Pediatric Nursing Excellence Award from the Society of Pediatric Nurses, a national recognition honoring outstanding pediatric nursing care and commitment to children and families.

The Pediatric Nursing Excellence Award evaluates healthcare programs across multiple areas of pediatric nursing practice. Applications are blinded, peer-reviewed, and scored by teams of pediatric nurses from around the country.

Shady Grove Medical Center, located in Rockville, earned the Platinum designation for excellence in clinical practice, staff development, patient- and family-centered care, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

The Society of Pediatric Nurses represents more than 3,100 members and 500 organizations nationwide. Award recipients are recognized as leaders in pediatric nursing and for maintaining advanced standards of patient care.

“This award reflects the passion, expertise and dedication that our pediatric nurses bring to families every day,” said Joan Vincent, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services at Shady Grove Medical Center. “We are honored to be recognized and highlight the excellent hospital care for children that is available here in our community.”

For more than 40 years, families have relied on Shady Grove Medical Center for pediatric care. The hospital features dedicated child-friendly treatment spaces designed to help children feel more comfortable while receiving care.

Physicians from Children’s National Medical Center provide care for pediatric inpatients, children undergoing surgery, and newborns in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

In addition to its inpatient pediatric services, the hospital also offers a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department and mental health services for children.

According to the hospital, 75% of nurses on the inpatient pediatric unit hold specialized certifications in pediatric nursing.
