Community Rallies Around Family of Gaithersburg Motorcyclist Killed in Collision

Family, friends, and community members are rallying around the loved ones of 25-year-old Roger Gustavo Pineda Cardona following his death in a motorcycle collision Saturday night in Gaithersburg.

A GoFundMe created in his memory describes Pineda Cardona as a beloved family member whose loss has left relatives heartbroken. Loved ones said they are raising funds to help cover funeral expenses, transport him to his country of origin for burial, and support family members during the difficult time.

“Roger was deeply loved by everyone who knew him, and his absence is felt every day,” the fundraiser states.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, the crash occurred at approximately 9:43 pm on May 16 near West Diamond Avenue and the ramp to southbound I-270. Investigators said Pineda Cardona was riding a green 2008 Kawasaki EX250 motorcycle eastbound when it collided with the rear of a black 2022 Toyota Camry that was turning left onto the I-270 ramp.

Pineda Cardona was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead. Police said the driver of the Toyota and two passengers were not injured and remained on scene. The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash.

Family members say any donations, prayers, or shares of the fundraiser are greatly appreciated as they work to honor Roger’s memory and fulfill his final wishes.
